When I was 16 my family moved. It was somewhat uprooting you might say. I was the only child left in the house and soon found myself in a new town, with no one besides the family dog to talk to. Not particularly social, I decided that since I had only 2 years of high school left that I might as well do something with it. I had had music in my head for years at this point and decided it was time to get it out. So I started playing piano. 6-8 hours a day, about 6 days a week. Sundays I didn't play very much. (less than 3 hours usually)

College was very disruptive for me, and I found myself only playing seriously during the 'off-season'. If I played during school I'd become completely consumed and although I wouldn't necessarily fail, I'd do quite poorly. High school had already proved that piano was too consuming to tolerate distractions.

Upon graduation from college I set aside 6 weeks to prep for a recording I had yet to execute. It would be all the giants that stayed trapped in my head due to my lack of conditioning over the previous 5 years. I figured I could ramp up to the 6+ hours a day I'd need to... (+) expand

I figured I could ramp up to the 6+ hours a day I'd need to pull these types of pieces off. Long story shorter, day 3, after only having played for 3 hours my hands were inflated with blood. They were hot instead of cold. I soon couldn't use my right hand for much at all. It was weak and had constant pain. Therapists couldn't figure anything conclusive and only after weeks and weeks of shooting in the dark did we find out that by raising my hand above my head for long periods of time did it stop hurting.

I don't know if my hands can handle the very physical playing I've done previously. I am trying to set up the financial environment that will allow me to find out. But if not, hopefully what I've recorded already is of some value. (-) collapse
