The Bowers story is as unpretentious as the music itself; formed by guitarist Phil Gionfriddo when he picked up 20 year old singer Liam Linley on the dance floor of a Wednesday night Melbourne rock club. Both big fans of loud guitar pop (Hoodoo Gurus, Small Faces) they hooked up with Rocket Science’s Kit Warhurst and soon signed with influential label Torn and Frayed (Dirty Three/Kill Devil Hills) who re- leased their first two 7”s. A slew of 45’s followed on labels including Bruce Milne’s seminal Infidelity (The Drones, Dan Kelly).
